Hi and Welcome to the #pub website

We hope the info listed below will be some help to you if you are new to IRC or just new to #pub.
#pub is a "chat channel" that uses IRCnet.
IRCnet is one of the original IRC chat networks and at the moment is still one of the freest and undominated IRC chat networks avalible. In some ways this is a blessing in others it isnt. Like a lot of things in life it is a double edge sword.

Individual channels regulate themselves and in doing so they all have different rules and regualtions.(see the rules on the info page) These are often applied in varying degrees too! Depending on the "Operators" view of their "rules".
An example is a "reg" on a channel will be probably allowed to "bend" the rules a little compared to some one who is "new or unknown" by the people in the channel.

On #pub as on any IRC channel you will see "Nicks" with different symbols at the side of them such as:-
@ = bot/ robot
@ = op/ operator
+ = voice/channel regular.

@ = bot/ robot:- Bots or Robots are a "automated" programme that is run to keep the channel "safe and protected" they have a similar control over the channel to Ops/Operators but do not consider the rights and wrongs of any individual case and will kick you and ban you if you break "their programmed rules". So beware!!!!

@ = op/ operator:- Ops or operators the people who have this symbol will all appear the same but there is a "chain of ops". All have a similar control over the channel. So beware!!!!

+ = voice/channel regular:- Regulars are just that "regular visitors to the channel" and in so being are regaurded in many cases as a friend of the channel etc:
'voice' People with a + in front of their nick have a voice on the channel. The only use for a voice is on a moderated channel (mode +m), where only ops and voiced people can talk. It can also be used as a mark of friendship or respect.

The whole point of #pub is for people to chat online and hopefully make friends with people all over the world. Its existance is down to the people who put there time into looking after the channel and visit it on a regular basis. Also some people "pay real money" to operate "bots" So please consider the fact that if some one didnt pay to keep #pub open then the channel would not be there for anyone to use in its present form!!!

"We" try to be friendly to all newbies and anyone who uses the channel! So give #pub a try and if you like it maybe you will be a + sooner than you think?
